what is emotion?

in layman term emotion is simply the reaction you give in response to a situation . emotion is a feeling of happiness, love, fear anger ,hatred which can be caused by a situation you are in or the people around you. although there are more than 500 emotions one can feel but we can limit it to few more common ones.

managing your emotions can seem like an excruciating task, you may feel helpless and overwhelmed by your mental state .

We develop emotional competence by using our emotional intelligence, which is our potential to learn practical skills based on self-awareness, motivation, self-regulation, empathy, and adaptability.

here are some common means of managing emotions

identify emotions

this means that you should identify what you are feeling at the moment . for example – you had a fight with your friend , it is important to know how you feel at that point , are you sad or angry ?

accepting emotions

accept the emotion rather than denying them . if you feel angry then let yourself know that you are angry.

stop overthinking

do not hang on too much by thinking excessively about the unpleasant emotions . if you are sad then do not keep obsessing over what made you sad , it will only lead to delaying of your work in hand , so divert your mind from that thought.

share your feelings

sharing your feelings with someone you trust will make you feel lightened and released . vent out your feelings and avoid getting left with piled up emotions that will only cause more frustration .

do not delay expressing emotions

express your feelings by letting the other person know how you feel . for example -weep if you feel sad .

Express appropriately

do not express too much of your emotions or too less . express appropriately

lifestyle change

lifestyle changes such as regular exercising , taking a balanced diet will keep you both physically and mentally healthy.

optimistic living

have an optimistic outlook on life , do not forget to laugh and think positively as it will motivate you to do good deeds .

practical thinking

understand and identify what what you CAN change and what you CANNOT change , you can work hard but you cannot alter life and death
